Privacy Policy

How we handle your data — and why, for calculator inputs, the answer is "we don't."

Effective April 18, 2026 Zero calculator data collection GDPR · CCPA · CPRA compliant

Summary

Everything you type into a SpousalCalc calculator — incomes, custody percentages, asset values, debt balances — runs entirely in your browser. None of it is sent to our servers. We have no database of user inputs because we do not collect them.

We use Cloudflare's privacy-preserving Web Analytics, which does not use cookies, does not track users across sites, does not collect IP addresses for analytics, and does not build user profiles. We have no marketing email list and no account system.

The rest of this policy explains the details required by GDPR (EU/UK), CCPA/CPRA (California), PIPEDA (Canada), and the Privacy Act 1988 (Australia).

1. Who We Are (Data Controller Identification)

SpousalCalc.com ("SpousalCalc", "we", "us", "our") is the publisher of this website. For GDPR/UK GDPR purposes, SpousalCalc is the data controller for any personal data processed in connection with this site. Contact for data requests: [email protected].

2. What We Collect — Calculator Inputs

Nothing. Every calculator on this site is a React application that runs entirely in your browser. Your inputs are held in your browser's memory (and optionally in your URL as query parameters if you copy a Share link). They are not transmitted to SpousalCalc servers, Cloudflare, or any third party.

Technical confirmation: open your browser's developer tools Network tab, use any calculator, and observe that no POST requests are made with your input values. We do not have an API endpoint for calculator inputs.

3. What We Collect — Server Logs

Our hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages) receives HTTP requests required to serve pages. These requests include: the URL requested, the HTTP method, a timestamp, the user agent string, and the IP address at the network layer. These are standard server logs required for any website to function.

Cloudflare retains these logs for up to 30 days for security purposes (DDoS mitigation, abuse detection) under their standard infrastructure terms. SpousalCalc does not access or analyze these logs except as necessary to investigate security incidents.

Legal basis (GDPR): Legitimate interest in operating and securing the website.

4. Analytics — Cloudflare Web Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate site usage (page views, referrers, country-level geography). Cloudflare Web Analytics is explicitly designed as a privacy-preserving alternative to Google Analytics:

Cloudflare's documentation for this product is at developers.cloudflare.com/web-analytics.

Legal basis (GDPR): Legitimate interest in understanding aggregate site usage to improve content.

5. What We Do Not Do

6. Cookies

This site currently sets no cookies. Cloudflare, as our hosting provider, may set security cookies in specific circumstances (e.g., `cf_clearance` after a challenge is completed). These are strictly necessary for security and are not under SpousalCalc's control. They set no tracking identifiers for analytics or advertising purposes.

7. Third-Party Links

Our Sources sections and Related Calculators link to third-party websites (government agencies, legal organizations, other calculators). Once you leave SpousalCalc, you are subject to the destination site's privacy policy. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy practices, or data collection of third-party sites.

8. Shareable URL Feature

Our calculators include a "Share" button that copies a URL to your clipboard containing your inputs as query parameters (e.g., ?ncpAnnualIncome=90000&children=2&tab=standard). This URL is generated in your browser and sent to your clipboard by your browser. SpousalCalc servers receive nothing.

If you choose to send that URL to someone else, the recipient can reproduce your calculation. Treat shareable URLs as sensitive — do not post them in public forums if the inputs are personally identifying.

9. GDPR and UK GDPR Rights (European Union / United Kingdom Users)

Under GDPR (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and UK GDPR, you have the right to:

Because we collect no personal data from calculator usage, most of these rights have nothing to operate on. For any personal data you voluntarily send us via email (e.g., to request a correction or report a bug), you can exercise these rights by emailing [email protected] with your request. We respond within 30 days.

10. CCPA / CPRA Rights (California Users)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have the right to:

CCPA Disclosure: In the preceding 12 months, SpousalCalc has not "sold" or "shared" (as those terms are defined in the CCPA/CPRA) any personal information. We have not collected sensitive personal information from calculator usage.

To exercise any CCPA/CPRA right, email [email protected]. Authorized agent requests are accepted with written authorization.

11. PIPEDA (Canadian Users)

Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, you have the right to access and correct personal information held about you. Requests should be directed to [email protected]. We respond within 30 days per PIPEDA requirements.

12. Privacy Act 1988 (Australian Users)

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), you have the right to access and correct personal information about you. We comply with the APPs to the extent applicable given our limited data collection. Complaints may be lodged with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

13. Children's Privacy

SpousalCalc is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, contact [email protected] and we will take prompt action to delete it.

Parents evaluating child-related calculators on this site (child support, custody, baby costs) should note: the calculators themselves are built for adult financial planning, and our zero-collection policy applies regardless of user age.

14. International Data Transfers

SpousalCalc is hosted on Cloudflare's global edge network. Server log data is processed at the Cloudflare edge location closest to you, not transferred to a single centralized location. For EU/UK users, requests are served from EU/UK edge locations. Cloudflare's infrastructure data handling is subject to Cloudflare's Data Processing Addendum, available at cloudflare.com/trust-hub.

15. Data Retention

16. Security

SpousalCalc is served over HTTPS/TLS exclusively. The site is a static application — there is no server-side database, login system, or user input processing pipeline to breach. The primary security risk model for this type of site is supply-chain compromise (e.g., malicious dependencies); we minimize attack surface by using only a small number of well-maintained open-source dependencies and running vulnerability audits on each build.

17. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be noted with a revised "Effective Date" at the top of this page. The change history is logged below.
