Terms of Service
The rules of using SpousalCalc.com — plain-English version followed by the full legal terms.
Plain-English Summary
By using SpousalCalc.com you agree to the following:
- The calculators produce estimates for educational planning, not final legal or financial answers.
- Using the site does not create an attorney-client or financial-advisor relationship between you and SpousalCalc.
- You take responsibility for verifying any numbers with a qualified professional before acting on them.
- SpousalCalc is provided "as is" with no warranties. We are not liable for outcomes from decisions you make based on these calculators.
- Don't abuse the site (no scraping, no attempted attacks, no attempting to disrupt the service).
The full terms below elaborate on each of these in legal form.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using SpousalCalc.com ("the Service", "the Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Site. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and SpousalCalc.com ("SpousalCalc", "we", "us", "our").
2. Nature of the Service
SpousalCalc publishes online calculators and educational content covering family law topics including divorce, child support, spousal support/alimony, property division, marriage and wedding finance, prenuptial agreements, and family tax matters. The Service is:
- Informational and educational only. Calculators produce estimates based on published statutory formulas, guidelines, and data. Results are not legal determinations, tax filings, or court-ready calculations.
- Not a substitute for professional advice. You should consult with a licensed attorney, certified financial advisor, or qualified tax professional in your jurisdiction before making decisions based on information from this Site.
- Not legal services. SpousalCalc is not a law firm, tax preparation service, or licensed financial advisory firm. No attorney-client, fiduciary, or advisory relationship is created by use of the Site.
3. No Legal, Financial, or Tax Advice
Nothing on this Site constitutes legal, financial, tax, accounting, or other professional advice. All content, including but not limited to calculator outputs, written explanations, FAQs, source citations, and consult-box guidance, is provided for general informational purposes only.
Family law varies significantly across jurisdictions. Laws change. Judicial discretion introduces variability even where formulas exist. Your specific case may involve factors our calculators do not capture. Professional review of your situation is always recommended before taking legal or financial action.
4. Accuracy and Limitations
We make reasonable efforts to maintain accuracy (see our Editorial Policy). However:
- Statutes and guidelines change. There may be a delay between a law change and our calculator update, even with our 30-day target update window for major reforms.
- Judicial discretion. Courts may deviate from guideline amounts based on case-specific factors our calculators cannot assess.
- Simplifications. Every calculator makes modeling choices (e.g., approximating net income from gross, grouping income levels into brackets, using sample state tax rates). Real-world applications may diverge.
- No guarantee of accuracy. We do not warrant that every calculator, example, source citation, or statement is free from error. Use at your own risk.
If you identify an error, please report it to [email protected]. Reports are acknowledged within 72 hours.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract content from the Site using automated tools, except compliant search-engine indexing
- Attempt to compromise the security of the Site, including through denial-of-service attacks, probing for vulnerabilities, or bypassing access controls
- Use the Site in any way that violates applicable law or regulation
- Misrepresent SpousalCalc output as legal or financial advice from a licensed professional
- Reproduce or redistribute calculator code or substantial content without written permission, except for the personal educational use of any single calculator output
- Embed our calculators in other sites without written permission
6. Intellectual Property
All content on SpousalCalc.com — including but not limited to calculator formulas, written explanations, source citations, branding, and underlying code — is owned by SpousalCalc or licensed to SpousalCalc, and is protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
You may:
- Use calculators for personal educational and planning purposes
- Copy and paste individual calculator outputs (the numeric results) for your own use, including sharing with your attorney, accountant, or financial advisor
- Link to any page on the Site from external content
You may not reproduce substantial portions of calculator content, source lists, or explanatory text on other websites without written permission.
7. Disclaimers and Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. SpousalCalc specifically disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, non-infringement, and uninterrupted availability.

- That content reflects the most recent law, regulation, or official guideline in every jurisdiction
8. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, in no event will SpousalCalc, its owners, operators, editors, contributors, or licensors be liable to you for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service, including but not limited to damages for lost profits, loss of data, loss of goodwill, or any damages resulting from:

- Errors, omissions, or inaccuracies in calculators, formulas, or content
- Unauthorized access to or alteration of your content or data
- Temporary unavailability or interruption of the Service
- Any content or conduct of any third party on or connected to the Service
In jurisdictions where exclusion of implied warranties or limitation of liability is not permitted, SpousalCalc's liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SpousalCalc, its owners, operators, editors, contributors, and licensors from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use or misuse of the Service, (b) your violation of these Terms, (c) your violation of any third-party right, (d) any content you submit, post, or transmit through the Service.
10. Third-Party Links
The Service contains links to third-party websites (government agencies, legal organizations, official calculators) that are not owned or controlled by SpousalCalc. We provide these links for your convenience and for source attribution. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party website. You acknowledge and agree that SpousalCalc is not responsible for any damage or loss caused by your use of any third-party website.

13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms periodically. Material changes will be indicated with a revised "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. Change history is logged below.
14. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Delaware, except where applicable consumer protection law of your jurisdiction provides otherwise.
15. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect. The invalid provision will be replaced by a valid provision that most closely matches the intent of the original.
